Petrides Homes Green @ Evertson
Green Homebuilding at Evertson Hill
Our work includes some of the latest and broadest thinking on “green building,” which we define as increasing the efficiency with which homes use resources (materials, energy and water) while reducing impacts on human health and the environment -- through better design, site development, home construction, operation, re-use and deconstruction.
In working out the specifics of green design and construction, we, like most other professionals involved in green homebuilding, use the LEED for Homes system, promulgated by the United States Green Building Council. Evertson Hill does not have an official LEED Rating. However, we have developed a preliminary LEED rating and believe that were the home to be taken through the full rating process that it would be “Certified” and would probably be awarded a premium level of “Silver.”
The eight categories examined and rated by LEED for Homes are summarized below; the other pages of this section of the website (see menu above) go into each category in more detail:
Innovation & Design Process: Special design methods, unique regional credits, measures not currently addressed in the Rating System.
Location & Linkages: The placement of homes in socially and environmentally responsible ways in relation to the larger community.
Sustainable Sites: The use of the entire property so as to minimize the project’s impact on the site.
Water Efficiency: Water-efficient practices, both indoor and outdoor.
Energy & Atmosphere: Energy efficiency, particularly in the building envelope and heating and cooling design.
Materials & Resources: Efficient utilization of materials, selection of environmentally preferable materials, and minimization of waste during construction.
Indoor Environmental Quality: Improvement of indoor air quality by reducing the creation of and exposure to pollutants.
Awareness & Education: The education of homeowner about the operation and maintenance of the green features of a LEED home.
